Hockey at Sunninghill

1st VII vs Sunninghill
The 1st VII were so pleased to be travelling to Sunninghill for a match and were very revved up and ready to go. After a very quick warm up the match started and from the whistle the Hanford girl's work rate was fantastic. They were very good at closing down the opposition and giving them very little time on the ball, so gained the majority of the possession and were on the attack constantly. The midfield were fast and covered a lot of ground, working tirelessly, especially as the sidelines of the pitch were boarded up so play just continued, relentlessly, without sideline stoppages. This is where the fitness of the Hanford team was so impressive, especially in the last quarter. The three goals came, very excitingly, from good passing up the pitch and determined finishing. Defensively the girls looked comfortable and did not allow some powerful players from Sunninghill the opportunities of easy shots on goal. Over all it was a great game of hockey from both teams but Hanford's work rate and determination made them the victors, 3-1.

U11A vs Sunninghill
The U11A team worked very hard today on two main targets for their game against Sunninghill; their passing to each other and closing down the opposition on the ball. They are beginning to understand the importance of passing the ball around the opposition, quickly to each other and then moving on into space, looking for another pass, and not merely pinging the ball up the pitch in hope. Excitingly their defending is coming on well and the team looked more confident in front of their own goal, clearing the ball out wide with control, most of the time! There were times when the girls managed to link a number of passes together, which inevitably resulted in a strong attack up the pitch. The final score after a really good game was 2-0 to Hanford, which was very pleasing as the girls had worked hard for this result. They were hungry for success, so it was a good team result.
