The U 12A and U12B teams travelled to Knighton for their first matches of the season on Saturday. Nerves were high and the anticipation of what was to come made everyone slightly edgy.
After a quick warm up the U12A’s took to the pitch first and got started. They took a while to settle onto the astro and into their positions but soon the passes came and the attacking play was exciting to watch. Although the ball spent the majority of the game in Hanford’s attacking end, no one could push the ball between the posts. However, Knighton were more successful and won the game 1-0. It was a very pleasing game from Hanford’s point of view and shows the potential ability of this cracking team.
The U12B team then had their turn on the astro, which they really enjoyed and they too played some really lovely hockey. The passing improved and the speed of the game was fast and furious. Both teams were getting to grips with using the width and depth of the pitch and then the goals started to come, first for Hanford, then Knighton and then two more for the Hanford girls from some lovely quick attacking play. The final score was 3-1 to Hanford.
