Fourteen girls, accompanied by Mrs Lewis and Tabby, went to Apple Day at Goldhill on Sunday afternoon. The girls tasted some of James’s cheese, which is made on the premises, and then helped him to make butter. The highlight of the afternoon though was making apple juice using windfalls they had collected that morning. They ended their trip by sampling their freshly made juice and eating some cake in the cafe. Every girl went home, clutching her own bottle of apple juice, and a few extra for Mr Riggs (who kindly drove the minibus), Mr and Mrs Johnston, Irene and the gaps.
