Nativity Play

THE HANFORD TRADITION

The Nativity Play performed by the VIth Form on December 8th has a long history. It was written in 1960 by Donald Kittermaster of King’s School, Worcester. He taught English at Hanford at that time and his wife Meriel taught the music. Mrs Kittermaster still lives in Child Okeford. The play was specially designed for the Hall at Hanford and the first child to sing the part of Mary was Emma Kirkby. It has been performed every Christmas since then and has never lost its appeal. Some of the costumes were given by Lady Rockley from the Amhurst Collection. The present children carry on the tradition and, again, the excellent singing brought the vivid scenes of the story to life in a very moving fashion.
