On Monday 30th September, a group of L6th girls enjoyed a trip to St Mary’s, Calne which was playing host to David Almond, the well known author of best selling books such as ‘Skellig’, ‘My Name is Mina’ and ‘The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas’. His work has been translated into over forty languages and has been adapted for stage and screen. His many awards include The Carnegie Medal, two Whitbreads and the Hans Christian Anderson Award, the world’s most prestigious prize for children’s authors.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed Mr Almond’s talk in which he shared his enthusiasm for creative writing. He explained that his love of words began when he was very young and that he still delights in the power of the imagination, a gift that we all possess. Everyone came away bursting with new ideas for stories of their own.
